Pro Tip For AT&T Cellular Data Service

Pro Tip For AT&T Cellular Data Service

Here is a Quick-Pro tip for better cellular data service on AT&T with an iPhone.

AT&T 5G and especially 5G+ (newer C-band service) are not ready for prime time (at least in West Palm Beach). I know they are working on optimizing it, but in the meantime, I have a workaround for those struggling in certain places to get data despite having a signal. For example, I encounter data issues in areas such as Duffy’s on Village and Osheas on Clematis in West Palm Beach. Without WiFi at these locations, it is a struggle…until I changed one setting. As I was thinking about it, I never had problems at these locations prior to 5G, so I decided to “downgrade” to 4G (LTE). Boom! Everything started working again like magic. I know what you are thinking. And yes, LTE is much slower than 5G.  But honestly, for most mobile business functions (email, etc.), you simply do not need it. The beauty is that you can switch back and forth in seconds. Here's how:

  1. Open the SETTINGS app on your iPhone.
  2. Choose CELLULAR
  3. Select CELLULAR DATA OPTIONS.
  4. Select VOICE & DATA, and finally,
  5. Click on LTE.  (It’s on 5G Auto by default)
If you need 5G for any reason, you can easily switch back.

Next time you have data issues and see that you have “signal bars” at the top of the phone, try this trick and see if it helps.
